other stuff
Some other stuff (besides the gag combo generator) that I’ve made.
shticker_book_unwritten
shticker_book_unwritten is a minimal CLI launcher for Toontown Rewritten (TTR) that supports GNU/Linux, Windows NT, and macOS.
shticker_book_unwritten is written in Rust (more specifically, the “safe fragment” of the language) for efficiency and safety reasons, and sports the following features:
- Automatic checking for updates and installing update patches as needed.
- A pseudo-shell interface for launching and managing multiple concurrent TTR instances.
-
The ability to bypass the shell interface and simply exit
shticker_book_unwritten as soon as the requested TTR instance(s)
are launched (using the
-d
flag, or its long form,--detach
). - The ability to store login credentials (including passwords, if requested) in shticker_book_unwritten’s configuration file, which is in the JSON format (a human-readable plain text format). This makes logging in and keeping track of accounts easier.
toonmux
toonmux is a multi-toon controller for Toontown-based MMORPGs. toonmux uses X11 and GTK, and is designed for use with GNU/Linux operating systems (but possibly works on anything that is using X11 as a windowing system).
Kiss-pie-storm-safe (KPSS)
Kiss-pie-storm-safe (or “KPSS” for short) is a self-contained ruleset for TTR that allows players to play the game without the use of sound gags or lure gags. Because sound & lure gags are so powerful (in comparison to other gag tracks and in comparison to the abilities of cogs), this does a lot of work to balance the game, while still allowing KPSS players to experience everything in the game (including all four boss fights). This is both similar to, and in contrast to, the longstanding practice of making “uber” toons: both KPSS toons and ubers seek to make the game more challenging, but ubers are severely restricted in what they can do (the first handful of tasks in the game, if that, plus factories and VPs).
As stated on the KPSS website, the goals of KPSS are threefold:
- To make the game more challenging by making strategizing much more intense than in normal play, and by making cog encounters more risky.
- To emphasize team play and cooperation by increasing the challenge and removing trivial ways of effectively removing cogs from battle (sound and lure).
- To balance cog-fighting gameplay by removing an overpowered gag track (sound) and empowering underpowered ones (toonup and drop, especially organic).
Dr. Jonathan Helianthicus Doe’s Rough and Ready, Quick and Dirty Guide to Not Failing at Skull Finder (and Minesweeper in General)
A guide to playing the “Skull Finder” (c.f. minesweeper) minigame found in the DA Offices in TTR. Read the guide here: https://github.com/JonathanHelianthicusDoe/skull_finder.
On sellbot field offices (SBFOs), especially concerning the problem of “difficulty” in Toontown
An open letter/essay to the TTR team concerning the implementation of an upcoming feature of TTR, “sellbot field offices”, and how it can and/or should sit with respect to the problem of making TTR an interesting and reasonably challenging game. garbage/useless tt ideas
garbage/useless tt ideas is a document compiling thoughts on the subject of potential changes to Toontown/TTR that do not “imagine a new game, but rather […] scratch the surface of an already-existing game (viz. Toontown) and reveal the superior game that was within it all along”. Said document “focuses on TTR-as-essentially-TTO, that is, the ‘base game’ in more or less the same state gameplay-wise as TTO in 2013”, and tries to improve it (or rather, discuss ways of improving it). Who knows, maybe one day will see the emergence of a new Toontown private server based on Open Toontown…
notes on toontown strategy
Notes on toontown strategy compiles personal notes on the subject of strategy in Toontown, particularly cog-fighting.
